Disability Employment Services client, Sofia, has a long history of health concerns, including mental health, and thought she could not sustain long term employment.
When she first started working with the atWork Australia team in Reservoir, Victoria, she would often find work but then leave quickly.
Her anxiety or health concerns would often be the cause of Sofia needing to change her employment.
Her Job Coach introduced Sofia to In-Work Support Coach Ann-Marie, so that the next time she found work they could focus on supporting her to sustain the role in the long term.
Sofia landed a role as a cleaner and was really enjoying the work. Ann-Marie, understanding Sofia’s history, connected her to atWork Australia’s Allied Health team for support with her anxiety.
“I ensured I was in touch regularly with Sofia. Often, we would talk about situations at work, and I would help to calm her down and talk through the issues and Sofia’s worries,” said Ann-Marie.
“Sofia embraced all the support on offer, which has helped her maintain her employment for two years now.”
“Despite everything that has been thrown her way, and the continued health concerns Sofia faces, she remains happily employed.”
Sofia is currently on a wait list for surgery, and the atWork Australia team will be there to support her through her surgery and back into work post operations.
Sofia is enjoying her role so much that she now plans to undertake further study as a mature aged person, to gain a Certificate IV in Support Work.
“Sofia is now much more capable of dealing with stressful situations and has learned to speak up and voice her concerns with her employer,” said Ann-Marie.
“Ann-Marie takes care of my needs. I could not be happier with my results,” said Sofia.
