atWork Australia client, Mr Miller, said, “It is great to be employed after a long time looking for a decent full-time job."

Mr Miller came to atWork Australia after an extended period of unemployment. In the past, he has worked Fly-in, Fly-out (FIFO) in the construction industry and would one day love to return to this line of work.

In the meantime, Mr Miller understood that he would first need to take on alternative employment and gradually work towards his goal.

When Mr Miller connected with atWork Australia’s Workforce Australia team in North Perth, WA, he was hesitant to engage with the team.

Mr Miller was being supported by Job Coach, Filda. She was patient with him and in time his attitude and willingness to engage with the team began to change.

As the pair developed a stronger relationship, Mr Miller shared some of the barriers he was facing, including that he experiences mental health concerns.

Filda encouraged Mr Miller to seek professional support to manage his health concerns and referred him to atWork Australia’s Wellness Services, for support from a Wellness Advisor.

Given Mr Miller had been unemployed for a significant period, he expressed that he wanted to enrol in a course to build his skillset and confidence.

atWork Australia supported Mr Miller to enrol in a Certificate III in Community Services, as well as completing a Forklift ticket to increase his employment options.

Gaining these new qualifications has boosted Mr Miller’s confidence. With Job Coach, Filda, by his side they began applying for various vacancies.

Through the employment journey, atWork Australia helped relieve some of Mr Miller’s financial pressures by providing transport assistance, food and fuel vouchers, and purchasing new clothes so he could be prepared for interviews.

Mr Millers hard work and commitment to upskilling has paid off as he has secured a position in the construction industry.
