Workforce Australia client, and single father, Nicholas, was referred to atWork Australia in Invermay for extra assistance to find work.
When he attended his first appointment with Job Coach, Renai, he shared that he lived with anxiety.
He also shared that his goal was to establish his own maintenance and handyman business, as this would allow him the flexibility to work and be present for his son.
Nicholas wasn’t sure where to start to reach his goal.
Job Coach, Renai, however, knew of the Self-Employment Assistance program which supports people to start, develop and grow a small business. She referred Nicholas to the program for support.
While he was working through the program, Renai and Nicholas worked towards supporting Nicholas to gain his driver’s licence.
atWork Australia funded some driving lessons and provided fuel vouchers.
When Nicholas was ready to start his business, atWork Australia supported him to purchase some of the materials he needed to get started.
“Nicholas now has his own small business and whilst it is early days, he has built a regular client base,” said Renai.
“He has regular requests from local real estate agencies to assist with maintenance.”
“I am looking forward to an improved quality of life for myself and my son, as well as being able to leave a legacy for my boy to be proud of,” said Nicholas.
“My son attends work with me on weekends which is such an amazing opportunity to be able to show my boy how hard I work to provide for our futures.”
“Without the support of atWork Australia and my Job Coach, I may not have been able to start my own business, gain my driver’s licence, and improve my confidence.”
