Bernadette, along with her teenage daughter, had recently moved to Perth. Without her support system nearby, Bernadette needed extra support to find employment.
She came to atWork Australia’s Mt Hawthorn, Workforce Australia office where she met her Job Coach, Tansy.
As Tansy got to know Bernadette, she learnt about her goal of becoming a bus driver.
So, together they co-designed a plan to help get her there. First up, atWork Australia financially supported Bernadette to gain her Heavy Vehicle (HR) Licence.
“As soon as I met Bernadette, I could see she had a positive attitude and a determination to find meaningful employment,’ said Job Coach Tansy.
“It was a challenge to gain an HR Licence, but Bernadette worked hard and was successful.”
Once Bernadette had the correct qualifications, together with Tansy, they started looking at suitable vacancies.
They discovered a few companies she could apply for, while also talking about her goals in life.
With support from Job Coach Tansy, Bernadette decided on a local bus company, which was close to home with hours that suited her.
Tansy supported Bernadette to find the right fit for her.
“For sustainable employment, it’s important we encourage our clients to look at the right employer for them.’, said Tansy
“The local employer allowed Bernadette to spend more time with her daughter and was much closer to home than others.”
When Bernadette was successful gaining an interview, Tansy was by her side supporting her and encouraging her.
She was successful in her interview and has reached her goals working as a Bus Driver.
