After a negative experience in the workplace, 27-year-old Libby brushed herself off to take on a new job in hospitality
As Libby has a learning difficulty and was anxious about work, In November 2019 she equipped atWork Australia’s Leongatha office for help with overcoming her fears and pointing her in a direction that would yield sustainable, enjoyable employment.
Libby was assigned to Dedicated Disability Job Coach, Stephanie. Stephanie noticed Libby was anxious about transitioning into the workplace again.
“But I was pretty sure we would find the perfect employment fit for Libby,” she said.
Stephanie met fortnightly with Libby to help her understand the requirements of a workplace and the expectations of employers. Together they identified and applied for several suitable options, including an assistant role in a café in the nearby beachside suburb.
After a successful interview with the café owners, much to Libby’s surprise she was offered a job.
Since starting work, Libby has adapted well to her daily tasks and has already received fantastic feedback from her employers about the effort she is putting in and her willingness to learn.
“She’s kicking goals and shown great initiative and willingness for her employment to work,” Stephanie said.
In the near future, Libby hopes to learn the till which will allow her to then work in all aspects of the business.
She’s very grateful to atWork Australia and Stephanie for all their help in securing her a job.
“If it wasn’t for Steph I wouldn’t be where I am,” Libby said.
