When first meeting her Job Coach, Minh, My Nuong was shy and anxious. She shared with Minh that she often would worry about her children and supporting them. Minh assured her and explained how atWork Australia will be able to assist her in finding employment that works for her and her children.
My Nuong spoke very limited English and was fluent in Vietnamese. With Minh also coming from a Vietnamese background, this was something that they were able to bond on.
“Being able to communicate with My Nuong in Vietnamese brought her comfort and allowed her to open up,” said Minh.
Speaking in Vietnamese, Minh was able to get to know My Nuong; her interests, skills and work history. My Nuong shared that she loves working in the beauty industry and would like to work within it again.
She also shared that she does not have a driver’s licence, so her future job would need to be accessible by public transport.
With this in mind, Minh pulled together a plan with the end goal of returning to the industry. Steps along the way included; boosting her confidence, updating her resume and reminding her of the value that she brings to the workplace.
After several appointments, Minh noticed a shift in her confidence, and they started to discuss job opportunities with suitable Vietnamese employers within the beauty industry. One employer was contacted, and My Nuong later attended an interview and was successful in gaining the position.
After hearing the good news, My Nuong could not wait to share with Minh.
“My Nuong could not believe it and was very happy!”, said Minh.
