Disability Employment Services client, Michael from Cronulla, NSW, had been working as a landscaper for several years but was keen to transition into the hospitality industry.
When he first met with his Job Coach, Jaswin, his confidence was low, and he was unsure how to achieve this goal.
Jaswin spoke to Michael about his transferrable skills, and how atWork Australia was able to support him to reach this goal.
First, she started with building Michael’s confidence, which included connecting him to our Wellness Services for extra support for his mental health.
Michael had shared he was experiencing panic attacks which was impacting his ability to find employment.
Jaswin also referred Michael to an internal program designed to inform and prepare clients about local work opportunities.
In this case, the session was focused on hospitality roles with an employer partner of atWork Australia.
The employer presented to the group, and they were also supported to learn about the soft skills needed for the role.
During the session the group tailored their resumes specifically for the roles available and practiced their interview skills with the employer in mind.
“These sessions support the clients to be as prepared as possible for their interviews,” said Pre-Employment Facilitator, Wendy.
“It sets them up to have the best chance of being successful in landing the role.”
Michael has since attended his interviews for the hospitality roles.
“He advised his Job Coach that his interview went really well,” said Wendy.
“We are now waiting to see the outcome of the interview, but either way, this is a great first step into the hospitality industry for Michael.”
