As a result of a previous workplace injury, Workforce Australia client, Melanie, had to seek new employment. Although, she was facing some personal insecurities about returning to work after seven months of unemployment.
When Melanie met her Job Coach, Charlotte, at atWork Australia’s Midland office in WA, she advised she had been focusing her job search on securing Kitchen Hand or Cleaning opportunities. However, she was feeling insecure about being in these environments due to her dental issues. Melanie shared that she was looking for a career that would allow her to grow and progress towards other opportunities. Unfortunately, as time went on, she was beginning to lose confidence in her ability to achieve this goal.
Due to Melanie’s insecurities, Charlotte’s first thought was to look at alternative career paths, opportunities where Melanie would not have to engage with customers.
Charlotte shared her thoughts and asked Melanie if she would consider working as a Traffic Controller, explaining the positive aspects of this role would really suit her. She wouldn’t have to deal with customers and there is an array of opportunities for career progression. Melanie agreed and was excited about making a career shift.
The first step was to get Melanie qualified to work in the industry. With Charlotte’s support and atWork Australia providing the funding, Melanie quickly enrolled to complete her Traffic Control ticket, obtained personal protective equipment, a two-way radio, and updated her Police checks to be ready to hit the ground running.
With the full support of the atWork Australia team, Melanie was put forward and secured a position with a new employer partner, who is excited to be taking on more atWork Australia clients.
Melanie’s Job Coach, Charlotte, said, “Melanie has made tremendous progress since connecting with atWork Australia. She looks much happier, and you can visibly see her confidence growing.”
Melanie has been incredibly grateful for the support she has received from atWork Australia. She has expressed that the support she has received has been very helpful and encouraging, and she would recommend others to take up the support on offer.
“I am so happy to be back at work, in an industry I can grow in,” said Melanie.
