Steven first came to MBC lacking motivation after a long period of unemployment and negativity after others were unable to look past his barriers including his history and participation in the methadone program.
Employment Consultant Abbie worked with Steven to improve his motivation. Steven started to complete courses and tickets to improve his skills, while Abbie supported Steven achieve his first goal of weaning off the methadone program.
“We started by looking at Steven’s motivation by taking small steps towards small goals. This included coaching and looking at strategies to build his confidence like completing tickets and licenses,” said Abbie.
“Steven also completed a work preparation program, and we helped Steven with funding to complete required police checks.”
MBC’s Employer Engagement Team has a close relationship with a local cleaning company and spoke to them about an interview with Steven. Steven was ecstatic when he was offered a role as a cleaner. The MBC team helped Steven purchase a uniform and kept in touch with him every two weeks to ensure the role was working for him and his new employer.
“Steven called me to let me know of his exciting news. He had his first shift at work and was very grateful to be back into a routine,” said Abbie.
The cleaning company appreciates working with MBC’s ‘work ready’ applicants.
“We recently had Steven start with us. He is an outstanding member of our team. He has shined since being given the opportunity to re-join the workforce,” said manager, Paul.
“I have seen Steven’s confidence and enthusiasm grow continually. At our regular post-placement support appointments, I can see his genuine appreciation to be working,” said Abbie.
“We are now working on Steven’s next goal together – helping him get his driver’s license.”
