‘Passionate, determined, and enthusiastic’ is how atWork Australia Job Coach, Ari, would describe his client, May.
Upon entering the Sunshine West, Victoria, office, Disability Employment Services Client, May, struggled with pre-conceived ideas and beliefs of employers not wanting to hire her because of her disability and age. After only knowing her for a short time, he could see that any employer would be lucky to have her within their team, so he worked to change May’s thinking towards employment
After getting to know May’s goals, skills, past employment, and barriers, the pair made a plan for the future that was tailored to her and her lower limb deficiency. As a part of this plan, they outlined a series of industries that would be suitable for May.
Self-confidence was also highlighted a major barrier for May, so, throughout Ari’s journey with May, they would always work through some self-motivation strategies and adjusted her perspective through interview training and positive behavior reinforcement.
After only three weeks, May was offered a permanent part-time position as a cleaner. She was over the moon about it.
To May, employment has provided much more than financial freedom. Work has assisted her in creating routines and finding purpose.
Ari states “May is reliable and punctual. She showed persistence outside of contact appointments and always called me every few days for any job role updates.”
“Ari is very professional and caring. He always puts 100% in finding me a job.” – May, Disability Employment Services Client.
