When Matt first approached atWork Australia’s Nowra office, he was hoping to secure some volunteer work and job experience that could potentially be a ‘foot in the door’ for a new career. Little did he know that he’d gain so much more.
Matt had left high school two years earlier due to anxiety and had very little work experience. Matt was paired with experienced DES Employer Engagement Consultant, Fiona.
Having been unemployed for two years, Matt was very shy and nervous about approaching employers. But after researching potential options and securing an interview with a local IT business, Fiona worked with Matt on job interview practice and, for extra support, she attended that first job interview with him.
After the interview with IT Basecamp, the news was all positive, with Matt being offered a role as an IT assistant, which Fiona says he couldn’t believe. “That was my first ever interview. I didn’t think I would get it!” said Matt, ecstatic with the news.
IT Basecamp offers clients specialised IT business solutions and is a perfect fit for Matt who is keen to learn and grow his career within the IT industry. Brad Lilly, who founded the Company in 2001 said, “Matt interviewed well despite being very nervous and he is adjusting well into the junior tech role. Fiona matched Matt well to our business and he is a welcome addition to our team.”
The job-seeking journey for Matt was very positive, with Fiona working hard to find the right job within the right team, knowing Matt would need continued support in the role. Matt was very pleased with the service and help offered by atWork Australia saying they could not have found him a better job with a better boss.
“I’m very grateful for the help the staff at atWork Australia have given me in trying to find work,” says Matt, who is very excited to be working in a business that is understanding and supportive of his needs.
Fiona will continue to support and encourage Matt as he needs but knows he’s on the right track. “I am very happy that this is a perfect match for Matt and he is going to learn so much here,” says Fiona.
