Mark achieves his goals of self-employment with the atWork Australia team by his side.
After spending the past 10 years out of the workforce caring for his father, Disability Employment Services (DES) client, Mark entered the atWork Australia office in Ballarat, Victoria. To assist in achieving his goals, Mark was partnered with Job Coach, Khala.
Despite wanting to obtain employment, Mark did not believe in himself and his abilities. Khala could see what a great asset he would be to any employer and did their best to ensure that he understood this, not only now, but throughout the duration of their journey together.
From here, the pair got to know each other and discuss how Mark could achieve his goals of obtaining self-employment. After mentioning his poor mental health and how it is an ongoing factor in his life, Khala enrolled him into our in-house wellness and psychology program for our DES clients, Allied Health.
In conjunction with the support from Khala, the wellness sessions were beneficial to Mark and his journey. After several sessions, he felt comfortable to progress and begin taking the steps to achieve his goal.
Mark has always aspired to be self-employed. For Mark it is a purpose and brings pride to do what he loves on his own terms. He has always been a handy man and has a great passion for it. He truly enjoys being able to maintain and keep things running and looking amazing.
With this information in mind, Khala worked with In-Work Support Coach, Hannah, to ensure that he had all the information needed to be successful in this new venture. Khala states, “The key strategy was to just support Mark with his decisions and to link him with the resources he needed”.
Once his business was up and running, atWork Australia were able to financially support Mark in purchasing work uniforms for his new venture.
Securing employment after 10 years out of the workforce means everything to Mark. Not only has employment assisted him financially, but both mentally and physically too.
“From when Mark came into our first appointment to now, he has come such a long way in a short period of time. He has increased his confidence and self-belief. Mark always put 100 per cent into his appointments,” said Khala.
“It has given me more self-esteem to achieve my goals and to be able to do something. I know that I have my Job Coach and In-Work Support Coach by my side.” – Mark, Disability Employment Services Client.
