Mark, at 47, was convinced he would never find meaningful employment. He had been out of work for over 12 years and his confidence was at an all-time low.
Mark really wanted to find full time work, but his depression and anxiety had become so severe, he was adamant that no one would employ him.
He was referred to the Clarkson office of atWork Australia where he was introduced to Job Coach, Pratik, who could see that Mark was needing some support.
Initially, the two met and simply chatted about Mark’s background and career dreams. Pratik wanted a good understanding of Mark to create a future pathway to employment.
Pratik helped Mark with one-to-one job search practice and other job-ready coaching sessions to help build his self-belief in his own capabilities.
He supported Mark constantly and worked hard to motivate him to apply for a variety of roles.
During this time, Mark’s wife announced they were to become parents and this seemed to be what Mark needed to really get the wheels in motion.
“When his wife announced she was pregnant, that was his trigger and motivation to want to work,” Pratik says.
Mark wanted to be the support his wife needed and was extremely keen for full-time work. Now Service Manager Pratik and Job Coach Katie set about working through their employer contacts and he was soon placed for a trial as a farm hand.
“If it was not for atWork Australia, I would never have found work. This has changed things for me and the ongoing support from the team has been so special,” says Mark.
Mark was incredibly relieved to find work and is enjoying the positive impact it has had on his life, and his depression, and he has even been able to discontinue his anxiety medication.
