atWork Australia Job Coach, Sarah, said, “Lisa is so excited to continue upskilling and is throwing herself into new opportunities.”

It is no secret, there is only one way to progress in life, that is through hard work and a positive attitude. When Lisa came to atWork Australia’s Workforce Australia office in Georgetown Tasmania, she was facing multiple barriers to employment. She knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but she held her head high and kept taking small steps forward.

When she met her Job Coach, Sarah, Lisa shared that she lived with anxiety, she had low confidence, limited employability skills, she had learning difficulties and had been unemployed for five years. Sarah listened as Lisa explained her situation, she provided encouragement for having the courage to reach out and ask for support.

Despite Lisa’s barriers, she was still eager to find employment. To increase her confidence and to build her employability skills Lisa participated in a program in her local community called, Launch into Employment. Lisa enjoyed the program so much, she decided to complete it for a second time.

After her second time through the program, Lisa was asked if she would volunteer to support other participants to complete the program. Due to her hard work, Lisa now co-facilitates the program.

Additionally, Lisa has commenced volunteering at the local City mission, further developing her confidence and building on her employability skills.

The skills and experience Lisa gained from her voluntary work and the consistent support from her Job Coach, Sarah, has led to her securing a position as a Crossing Guard.

Lisa has made incredible progress since commencing with atWork Australia, she continues to develop new skills and more confidence from every experience she takes. Lisa’s Job Coach, Sarah, said, “Lisa is so excited to continue upskilling and is throwing herself into new opportunities.”

atWork Australia have supported Lisa to complete her Certificate III in Retail, First Aid training, an adult literacy program, and a Traffic Management course. With Lisa’s passion for up skilling there is no doubt she will continue taking positive steps forward in her employment journey.

Six months later, with the support of Employer Engagement Consultant Brendan, Lisa is now working in a permanent role as a Kitchen Assistant.

The team found the perfect fit for Lisa. With limited opportunities in this regional area, they were able to find Lisa a role less than a five-minute drive from home.
