Meet 23-year-old, Disability Employment Services Client, Lily. When Lily first entered the atWork Australia office in Noarlunga, South Australia, she was extremely anxious and found it hard to do things without a lot of support and encouragement.
Lily had a limited work history, which only added to her nerves and anxiousness at the time.
She had no idea what she would like to do for work, so the support from her Job Coach, Katrina and the broader atWork Australia team was invaluable.
“Together we discussed a range of industries and positions. This gave me an understanding of what she wants and needs from a position,” said Katrina.
With an understanding of what she was looking for, her skills, interests and mental health, Katrina suggested hospitality.
The pair decided that this would be a great way for Lily to get out into the workforce to learn skills whilst also building confidence and boosting her self-esteem.
In preparation to enter the hospitality industry, she completed a Barista certification and gained her RSA licence. She felt prepared, and ready to start work.
Ready to take the next step, Katrina identified a local café position.
When the interview day arrived, Lily was nervous and called Katrina whilst in her car for support. Hearing how nervous Lily was, Katrina contacted the employer. The manager met her at her car, telling her that she is supported by him, and all is well. Due to this support, she was successful in the interview.
Lily worked with this business for some time and shared her bubbly personality with the team. She was thriving, and loving work. Until, the business unfortunately closed, and she was out of work. She contacted Katrina once again.
“When we got back in contact, she shared that she was interested in Childcare, so I booked her into training so she could meet her goals,” said Katrina.
Together, they worked towards this goal in all appointments. Soon enough, Lily gained placement with a childcare centre and was offered employment at the end of the placement.
“Lily has had a lot of ups and downs, but she has achieved her goals despite it all. I am so proud of her,” said Katrina.
“Katrina has been very kind compassionate, patient, supportive and encouraging. She has made a really big impact on my confidence and self-esteem in gaining employment.” – Lily, Disability Employment Services Client.
