As a young woman with depression and anxiety, two years of unemployment had left Phoebe with little experience to find suitable employment.
From Laverton VIC, Phoebe, 27, was motivated to find work, however, lives with depression, anxiety and limited numeracy skills; barriers she believed were too big to overcome. Her lack of interpersonal skills had made it difficult to actively and confidently look for work.
Phoebe was introduced to Job Coach, Ariel, whose aim was to build her capacity to communicate through contact appointment and develop her interview skills. Ariel implemented tips and tricks that would help Phoebe feel confident and be able to promote her skills and experiences. Ariel took the approach of being very flexible with Phoebe and working around her study schedule as well as advocating to the Employers through marketing material.
Phoebe has shown great improvement and progression in her interpersonal skills, becoming more open and talkative through contact appointments; this has allowed her to grow her confidence. In turn, Phoebe has found a job that she can see herself at for many years to come.
When Ariel told Phoebe she had the job, she was over the moon. Phoebe had been studying a Diploma of Early Childhood Education for two years and was very excited to see that her hard work and dedication had paid off. Phoebe was so grateful for the guidance; Ariel saying, “her smile made my day”.
Phoebe says she “landed her dream job” and is thankful for Ariel’s kindness and working with her schedule to produce the best possible outcomes.
