Lai started with atWork Australia, Quakers Hill, NSW, in the Workforce Australia program at the beginning of July. She felt her main barriers to employment were her age, poor English language skills and no formal qualifications.
She met Job Coach Karishma and together they spoke about her transferable skills and abilities; working together to update her resume.
With atWork Australia, Lai has a dedicated team supporting her including her Job Coach, an Employer Engagement Team member and an In-Work support coach. Lai’s Employer Engagement team member was able to land Lai an interview soon after she started with atWork Australia as a Production Worker.
She was nervous about the interview, and not yet confident about her skills and abilities.
So together, Karishma and Lai practiced her interview skills. Karishma also gave Lai tips and advice to make her feel confident, and how to sell her abilities to the employer.
“It’s normal to feel nervous before an interview as it shows you care about the outcome,” said Job Coach Karishma.
“With Lai, we practiced interviews so she would feel more confident. We looked at predictable questions and helped Lai look at what skills of hers matched the qualities and outcomes the employer might be looking for.”
Soon after Lai’s interview the employer called the atWork Australia team to let them know how well Lai had done and that she would be offered the position.
Within a month of starting with atWork Australia, Lai started work with her new employer.
Every year, atWork Australia helps thousands of clients like Lai expand their skills and qualifications to help them gain the right job with the right employer. Call us today on 1300 080 856 or enquire online to find out how we can help you meet your career goals.
