Kien worked in the legal industry overseas before he moved to Australia. He faced a number of barriers, including a brain injury, limited support network and he was also the primary carer for his wife. After six years of caring for his wife full time, he was ready to return to employment.
He was quickly disheartened when his applications in the legal industry, where he had previous experience, were unsuccessful.
He came to atWork Australia in Deception Bay, Queensland where he was partnered with Job Coach Kyla.
“I helped Kien with numerous job applications in government, law, and the justice system. When I saw Kien was getting affected by the number of unsuccessful applications, I worked with him to look at a new approach to return to the workforce,” said Kyla.
Kyla enrolled Kien in a Certificate III in Administration to build up his qualifications again in Australia.
“After the course, Kien and I practised interview skills, updated his resume to make it more relevant to multiple industries, and added in his new qualification.”
Kien was soon successful in landing a role at Australia Post as a casual trainee mail officer. He was offered full-time work within a few weeks.
“Kien was happy to find employment so he could financially support himself to keep moving towards his goal of returning to the legal industry by completing Australian-based qualifications.”
Kyla was excited to help Kien as she knows there are many pathways you can explore to help achieve your goals.
Kyla said, “Kien called me just this week to let me know he had an interview for the Department of Justice.”
“I’ve been able to help Kien take small steps to achieving his overall goal. It’s great to be there from start to finish to see his progress.”
