Kiarah is a 21-year-old woman, who was shy, softly spoken, and unsure of what her employment future looked like.
When Kiarah connected with atWork Australia’s Disability Employment Services team in Toowoomba, QLD, she had a clear short- and long-term goals. To find suitable, enjoyable employment with a good work-life balance and remain in that employment long term.
When Kiarah met her Job Coach, Emma, she was very open about sharing information on her health barriers, including that she lives with mental health concerns.
Although Kiarah was nervous, she embraced her experience with atWork Australia, taking on any advice and guidance offered by her Job Coach.
Kiarah and Emma met on a regular basis, Emma would constantly motivate Kiarah, telling her she is amazing and giving her the confidence to take on new opportunities.
It was not long until Kiarah secured a new position in the housekeeping industry. However, after a few weeks she was feeling quite unhappy in her position. Due to her strong relationship with her Job Coach, she felt comfortable to raise her concerns and expressed that she was not happy at work.
Emma was very supportive and understanding of Kiarah’s decision to look for alternative employment. While Kiarah remained in her current position, the pair began searching for other suitable opportunities.
Kiarah’s courage to be honest and open with her Job Coach has paid off. She has been able to transition into a similar role with a new company and it is proving to be a much more enjoyable workplace.
