Keegan lives with a learning disability, and at just 21, he was already finding it hard to maintain employment.
He needed assistance in understanding the requirements of a role, and with filling in paperwork and applications.
When Keegan met Job Coach Andrew at the Ballina atWork Australia office, they quickly became friends. Andrew took the time to get to know Keegan and understand him so he could find the right type of employment for Keegan.
Andrew created a personalised approach to helping him find good work. They started with extra support in Keegan’s numeracy and literacy skills, and Andrew supported him personally during his interview.
“Keegan is very enthusiastic towards any idea from us and always partakes to his best ability.
The journey has been one where we tailored the approach and marketed Keegan to targeted employers resulting in Keegan’s employment,” said Andrew.
Keegan appreciated Andrew taking the time to get to know him and to understand he was eager to work. When he was hired as a trolley collector, his gratitude towards Andrew was heart-felt.
“My new job is helping me in my life. It has improved my fitness with all the walking involved. The work has helped me with my confidence especially with talking to other people,” said Keegan.
“Andrew and atWork Australia have treated me like an individual and never gave up on me. I wouldn’t have this job without Andrew’s belief in me.” – Keegan, DES Client, NSW
