Kayleigh had recently moved to Sydney and while she was out exploring her new neighborhood, she spotted atWork Australia’s Blacktown office and walked in to ask the Disability Employment Services team for assistance to secure a new job.
When Kayleigh met her Job Coach, Rachael, she shared that she was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome as a young child and that she sometimes had difficulties with money handling.
She knew working would help to improve her confidence and she advised Rachael that she was eager to find a new job. Rachael assured Kayleigh she had come to the right place and that with atWork Australia’s support she would be working in no time.
Just as Rachael promised, she quickly found a suitable role for Kayleigh as a Bar and Gaming Assistant. Kayleigh was absolutely thrilled when she heard the news. Kayleigh said, “I instantly got a job with Rachael’s support. Kayleigh’s Job Coach, Rachael, said, “Kayleigh nailed her interview and is now one of their most reliable and hardworking employees. Her boss, Lauren, is always saying how amazing Kayleigh is as an employee.”
Now Kayleigh has started on her new career path, she has moved into the In-Work Support phase of her journey with atWork Australia. Kayleigh is now being supported by her In-Work Support Coach, Sandy, who is there to provide practical support to ensure Kayleigh is thriving in her new workplace.
One of the main challenges Kayleigh was facing in her new workplace was knowing how to handle challenging situations when they arise. Sandy began conducting role play activities with Kayleigh, going through a variety of scenarios she may face. Given Kayleigh’s line of work, the pair worked hard to develop Kayleigh’s skills and confidence in dealing with difficult customers. Kayleigh said, “Sandy’s support has really helped to build my confidence and allows me to be successful in my new career.”
Sandy has enjoyed watching Kayleigh progress in her new role. Sandy said, “Kayleigh has blossomed and continues to build confidence in her new role.”
atWork Australia has been delighted to be a part of Kayleigh’s journey. From the minute she walked through the door, she was eager to find employment and was accepting of our support.
“I am grateful for the continuous support I have received. Knowing I have regular contact from my In-Work Support Coach, who provides me with support and builds on my confidence,” said Kayleigh.
