When Kawanji first reached out to the Workforce Australia team in Ravenswood, Tasmania, they were working minimal hours in a retail store. Kawanji didn’t have a driver’s licence and was spending a lot of time on the commute, either walking or catching the bus.
Kawanji was connected with local Job Coach, Cynda, and together they worked on a job plan to help Kawanji meet their goals; specifically, securing long-term employment. Kawanji seemed to lack confidence when they first met with Job Coach, Cynda, but together they worked on strategies to improve Kawanji’s self-confidence.
Not long after joining atWork Australia, Kawanji left casual employment as shifts were few and far between. However, this allowed Kawanji to focus on his job prospects and goals.
As a first, Cynda supported Kawanji to obtain his driver’s licence; this would help their job prospects as well as make any commute easier.
Then, with the goal of employment in mind, Kawanji was enrolled into a security course.
Cynda continued to support Kawanji by helping them look for different employment opportunities. Cynda also enrolled Kawanji into atWork Australia’s internal program, Jobs for the Mob, to help with fundamental elements relating to becoming job ready.
Before too long, Kawanji secured casual employment at the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre. Cynda was able to financially support Kawanji by purchasing work clothes.
Kawanji still has a goal of working in security and is working with Cynda to take the steps to get there.
