Meet First Nations Workforce Australia client, Karlie. At the time of entering the atWork Australia office in Port Pirie, SA, she had been unemployed for nine years. Karlie was eager to find employment and make positive changes in her life.
She was partnered with Job Coach, Ashlee, to achieve her goals of re-entering the workforce.
“When I first met with Karlie, she had only just moved back to Port Pirie. She wanted to get her life back on track, so she moved interstate back to her hometown,” said Ashlee.
Karlie’s goal was to find meaningful employment that was sustainable to her. She was very interested in nursing, so together with Ashlee, they created a plan to get her there.
Each fortnight, Karlie was attending appointments excited to learn, and to progress on her journey. This progress included the participation in a local job program centred around care and support. She participated in this program via the local TAFE, and attended three times a week, for 12 weeks.
To address her mental health through this period, Karlie also spoke with atWork Australia’s in-house wellness team.
With her TAFE program complete, Karlie and Ashlee set their vision on their next goal, Karlie obtaining her driver’s licence. The first steppingstone for this goal was completing the CHG drug dependency test, which she passed.
With this test passed, she is now able to get her driver’s licence.
“Karlie was dedicated at all stages of her journey to employment. She was kicking her goals left, right and centre. It was so great to see!” said Ashlee.
With her heart drawing her to nursing, Karlie has applied for a nursing cadetship commencing this year. Karlie will attend the TAFE once a week for tutoring.
Her studies do not end there though. Karlie is also completing atWork Australia’s MoneyMinded program to gain confidence in managing money and finances.
Karlie’s enthusiasm and eagerness to enter employment was evident at all stages of her journey. The Port Pirie atWork Australia team is looking forward to seeing all her hard work pay off when she begins her cadetship.
“Ashlee has gone above and beyond to help me with employment and anything else she could. Without Ashlee, I wouldn’t have achieved the things I have.” – Karlie, atWork Australia client.
