Judy first came to atWork Australia’s Pakenham office in July, 2022, to get support from the Disability Employment Services team. Judy has been managing multiple health concerns and was facing other personal challenges.
When Judy came into the office, she was very anxious and nervous; she did not have the confidence to talk to anyone. Judy informed the team that she was under a lot of financial stress, and she really needed to find a job. Judy was working as a casual Childcare Worker and she was not getting enough hours.
When Judy was introduced to her Job Coach, Chris, she helped Judy develop her resume and invited her into the office every week to build her confidence. Chris then encouraged her to speak to her employer about increasing her hours. In the meantime, atWork Australia provided funding for Judy to complete her First Aid course.
Next time Judy came into the office, she was introduced to Carolina, an InWork Support Coach, who explained that she would be supporting Judy as she had started work. Judy was relieved to hear that the support would continue while she was working and that she was happy Carolina was there to help her. Both ladies came from the same ethnic background and were quickly able to develop a strong bond.
From this day, Carolina kept in touch with Judy, providing regular encouragement and supported her to focus on the future and forget about the past. Carolina reminded Judy of all the challenges she had overcome. Judy and her InWork Support Coach, Carolina, practiced conversations and techniques for how Judy could approach her employer to ask for more hours.
Judy had built her confidence to have the conversation with her employer and she was rewarded with a fulltime position as a Childcare Assistant. atWork Australia were able to continue supporting Judy in her fulltime role with fuel vouchers, sunscreen and sunglasses as she was spending a lot of time outdoors. Judy’s InWork Support Coach, Carolina, said, “Judy has come such a long way in her journey with atWork Australia. She is now really confident and has a positive outlook on life.”
Judy was very appreciative of the support from atWork Australia. Judy said, “I am very grateful to be able to build good rapport with Carolina, I feel comfortable to talk to her about any issues I am facing in my personal life or at work.”
“Through all the support from atWork Australia, I feel like I can do anything. I am so grateful for atWork Australia, they supported me on my difficult journey and continue to support me on my new journey,” said Judy.
