29-year-old Workforce Australia client, Joshua connected with atWork Australia due to financial hardship. At this time, he had low motivation to participate within the program, or communicate with his Job Coach, Angela.
He did not have a strong support network which only added to his financial pressure, and low motivation levels.
Due to his financial hardship, atWork Australia support him with a range of financial supports including clothing and food.
Upon entering the office in Chester Hill, NSW, he had no employment goals, but after connecting with Angela, he would soon have a job plan to work towards.
“When I first met Joshua, he had low motivation to participate in activities, and had no direction,” said Angela.
As a first nations client, Angela knew how important a strong support network was to Joshua. To get him amongst fellow first nations clients to socialise, whilst also progressing towards employment, Joshua was referred to the Jobs for the Mob program.
He was also put into direction communication with our Indigenous Connections team if he needed any specific cultural assistance/advice.
The combination of this program, and his ongoing sessions with Angela and the Indigenous Connections team, lead to Joshua feeling more confident, understanding the benefits of work beyond financial, as well as having a clear direction of what jobs he would like to pursue.
With a new career pathway laid out, Joshua was enrolled within a forklift course to gain the qualifications he needed to progress.
This certificate would later be a foundation of his future position as an Assembler.
