Josh is a Disability Employment Services client working with the atWork Australia team in Mt Druitt, NSW.
Josh lives with mental health conditions including post-traumatic stress disorder. He also has a physical injury.
When he started working with his Job Coach, Lavinia, he was shy and nervous, but she could see his dedication and determination which she knew could help land him a job.
Lavinia worked with Josh to develop strong interview skills to showcase his strengths and abilities. Josh participated in mock situations to improve his confidence. After a few interviews, he landed a role with supportive employer, Exltrans, as a Warehouse Assistant.
“Josh’s dedication and positive attitude has had a significant impact on our team. We were thrilled to see him grow and develop his skills. We were excited to support him achieve his goals,” said Job Coach Lavinia.
Once in his new role, he was supported by atWork Australia’s In-Work Support Coach, Caroline.
“Brendan from Exltrans quickly recongised Josh’s potential and went above and beyond to provide him additional training, including forklift training,” said Caroline.
“This not only enhanced Josh’s skills but also boosted his confidence. As a result, Josh successfully obtained his forklift licence, opening even more opportunities for growth within the company.”
Josh’s employer has been so supportive of his growth, they are now supporting him to gain his driver’s licence.
“This additional support from his employer showcases the nurturing and supportive workplace environment, where employees are encouraged to reach their full potential,” said Caroline.
“Josh has gone from being shy and doubting himself to being a confident man who is willing to help others and will one day make an excellent mentor.”
Josh’s transformation from a nervous client with low self-esteem to a confident and skilled member of the Exltrans family is truly inspiring.
