Single parent and Disability Employment Services client, Jodie (46), entered the atWork Australia office in Rasmussen, Queensland, cautious to enter employment.
Upon entering the office, she was met with Job Coach, Gayle. At first, she was hesitant on the benefits that employment could do for her, but also her kids.
After several appointments with Gayle, her opinion on work changed. She realised the great financial pressure that would be lifted if she were to obtain employment.
This opinion was solidified when she was notified that she no longer had to be with an Employment Services Provider, but she chose to stay as she was eager to take the next steps.
With this newfound excitement, Gayle and Jodie discussed what the best industry would be for her, based on her skills, interests, goals, employment past, and her spinal disorder.
As a result of these conversations, it was decided that they would look for positions within residential care, as she wanted to connect and support the local community.
In following appointments, the pair worked on building Jodie a resume and cover letter to impress potential employers. And that is just what it did – she was later offered a position as a fulltime Residential Care Worker.
Within this next stage of her journey, atWork Australia was able to financially support Jodie with all the pre-screening, tickets and clothing that she needed in order to stat her new position.
After several weeks in the position, Gayle is happy to confirm that she is loving it as much as she did on the first day. She enjoys working with the local Indigenous youth community and supporting them to be their best.
“Jodie just loves her new job. She has bonded great with the clients; they call her Aunt. Jodie is now earning a substantial wage and able to pay her bills and stated on buying Christmas presents for her children from her first pay!.” – Gayle, atWork Australia Job Coach
