Troy had recently moved from the Central Coast in NSW to Victoria for a change of scenery and to be closer to his family. Troy decided to move to the Goulburn Valley area as he hoped that it would provide him with better employment opportunities.
Troy, 47, lives with anxiety, depression and ADHD. He is experienced in labouring, production work, being a factory hand and cooking.
Due to Troy’s experience with depression and anxiety, he lost his confidence and motivation, and struggled to find employment. He approached atWork Australia’s Shepparton office in late April 2021 where he met Job Coach, Brad.
Troy discussed with Brad his future employment aspirations and expressed his desire to return to hospitality as he enjoyed cooking and had started an apprenticeship years ago.
Brad had passed on Troy’s resume to a few local pubs, and Troy was introduced to the head chef of a restaurant. Troy expressed to the head chef that he wanted to get back into the kitchen and the head chef was willing to give Troy the opportunity to do so. Brad offered the employer a wage subsidy as an incentive to employ Troy and provide him with ongoing and sustainable employment, which the employer thankfully took. Brad also assisted Troy with a petrol voucher and work clothing.
Troy was with atWork Australia for six days before he commenced employment. Brad was happy to see everything work out for Troy in such a short amount of time. Everything fell into place for Troy and Brad enjoyed seeing Troy being able to do what he enjoys doing.
Troy says that Brad supported him and the communication with him has been awesome. He described his experience as excellent and is very happy with his employment outcome. He would definitely recommend atWork Australia to other people who require assistance in finding employment.
Troy says: “I am looking forward and not back. Work is my number one goal and it feels like things are falling into place and I am getting back to my former – happy – self.”
Brad adds to that: “It has been a short but great experience working with Troy. I am so happy to see him back in an industry he wants to work in.”
“I can see a sense of pride and happiness when he talks about how much he enjoys working at his place of employment. Troy is now working where he belongs,” concludes Brad.
