Meet Disability Employment Services client, Joanne. At 50 years of age, she entered the atWork Australia office in Narellan, NSW, as a voluntary client.
In her first appointment with Job Coach, Minette-Louise, Joanne shared that she has a long history in administration and accounts in freight, that severely impacted her mental health.
She was constantly under extreme stress, having panic attacks on the side of the highway whilst driving to work. Often, she would be hospitalised because of the stress and had periods of not being able to function.
As a result, Joanne was granted the Disability Pension but entered our services as a voluntary client. She was missing the social interaction and the self-worth that work provided her.
Alongside Minette-Louise, they outlined a plan to get her into work that she would enjoy with a friendly supportive team.
“Joanne wanted to be valued in a role that would not impact her mental health,” said Minette-Louise.
“She was looking for a role that had tasks she could finish on the day so she could finish work and not have workload hanging over.”
With all this information in mind, Minette-Louise spoke with the local Employer Engagement Consultant, Janine, to see if there were any suitable roles.
Janine knew of the perfect role for Joanne, a maintenance role within the local McDonald’s branch.
After a discussion with Joanne on the role discussing the responsibilities, she was referred to the position and was successful.
Since starting her position, Joanne mentioned that she is feeling so great. She is proud of herself, and so is her family. She is so thankful to be in a job that she enjoys.
Joanne looks forward to her shifts alongside her newfound friends, and supportive manager.
