In 2020, when Disability Employment Services client, Jessica, connected with the Noarlunga atWork Australia team, she was shy, anxious and hardly said a word. A clear difference to where she is now in 2024.
Jessica got to know her Job Coach, Katrina. They worked together to achieve Jessica’s goals at a pace that worked for her, and her anxiety.
“I built a bond with Jessica, allowing her to break down her walls, while building her confidence and self-esteem,” said Katrina.
Once her confidence was high, and she was job-ready, Jessica expressed an interest in working in a café. Katrina got right to work, in search of a sustainable position for Jessica.
With her interview techniques perfected thanks to Katrina, Jessica was successful in securing a position within no time.
She later transitioned into the care of the In-Work Support team to ensure she would continue to thrive at work.
After some time in this position, she moved north, to a new suburb and required new work closer to home.
Her workplace had a location in her new suburb, and she was able to transfer to that location. She remained in this position for one year, until her cancer diagnosis.
After her diagnosis, she resigned from her position and moved back to Noarlunga to undergo treatment.
“Whilst in recovery Jessica got back in contact with me sharing her new work and study ambitions,” said Katrina.
“Jessica shared that she had started studying to become a School Services Officer.”
With her new qualification on hand, and feeling ready to return to work, Jessica requested to return to Katrina, after an amazing experience the first time around.
atWork Australia financially supported Jessica in achieving her First Aid certification and Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect (RRHAN) course to be able to work in a school.
Jessica now is living out her dream of working as a School Servies Officer and is so thankful for the support of Katrina.
