Workforce Australia client, Jason, came to atWork Australia with very little trust in employment.
As a First Nations client, Jason had experienced discrimination in past workplaces which had impacted his mental health.
He shared with Job Coach, Sanah, from the atWork Australia Mirrabooka office in Western Australia, that these experiences left him unsure of his future career path.
Due to his experience, Sanah referred Jason to our in-house Wellness Services.
She felt Jason wasn’t ready to start job searching, so she also referred him to our Jobs for the Mob program to help him set some goals for his future.
Jason also attended a First Steps to Success event and met with employers in a casual setting.
This interaction with employers, along with regular meaningful appointments with Sanah, started to rebuild his trust in employment.
He was supported financially to gain tickets and licences, such as his white card, further enhancing his confidence.
“Jason’s journey with atWork Australia has been a bit like a roller coaster,” said Sanah.
“Some days we worked on coaching his mindset and other days we made good progress towards a future job.”
Jason appreciated Sanah remaining by his side and on his team during these moments. When he was ready for work, Sanah connected Jason to Employer Engagement Consultant, Jain, who supported him to land employment as a Common Area Cleaner in a fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) role in the mines.
“Thank you for your ongoing support and being there for me in my low times. I am excited to start this new chapter of my employment journey,” said Jason.
