Anxiety, depression and a lack of knowledge of how to apply for jobs online were some of the barriers Janet faced in finding employment. Originally with another provider, Janet decided to take a chance on atWork Australia, having been unemployed for one year.
Her atWork Australia Disability Employment Services Job Coach Rachelle found Janet to be a very positive person who was willing to learn.
“When I first met Janet, she’d been unemployed for just over a year and her confidence was low, however, her motivation to find employment shone through with her decision to transfer to atWork Australia,” Rachelle said.
Through one-on-one sessions, Janet and Rachelle discussed her strengths, the challenges she faced in finding employment, and solutions to achieving her employment goals.
As a result, atWork Australia funded Janet in a Hospitality Certificate III course where she successfully obtained her Responsible Serving of Alcohol, Responsible Conduct of Gambling and Barista certificates.
Rachelle also helped Janet renew her skills at applying for jobs online and discussed the importance of how to professionally present for job interviews.
Soon, Janet found presentation was the key to success when she obtained a role as a Crew Member at McDonald’s. atWork Australia was able to provide further assistance by providing Janet with her work uniform, and Janet is very happy to be back in employment, “I am very grateful to have work and love learning new techniques,” Janet said.
“Since registering with atWork Australia, we’ve seen Janet grow with confidence,” said Rachelle. “While she was surprised at how quick the whole process was, she was very grateful for the assistance she received to achieve her work goal.”
