Jammie is working towards his goal as a marine photographer, after participating in Jobs for the Mob

A determined 33-year-old Workforce Australia, First Nations client, Jammie, is rebuilding his life.

Jammie felt like his past choices had impacted his future employment options. With no driver’s licence, limited experience, and low confidence, stable work felt out of reach.

He turned to the atWork Australia team in Penrith for tailored support. His Job Coach referred him to atWork Australia’s Jobs for the Mob program. During the program he learnt how to set goals, how to job search and other skills such as budgeting. He also met facilitator Shameer during his course.

“Jammie completed Jobs for the Mob, gaining essential job search and interview skills, and built confidence to re-enter the workforce,” said Shameer.

During the course he set a short-term goal of finding secure stable employment to regain financial independence.

His long-term goal is to pursue a career as a marine wildlife cameraman, combining his passion for the ocean with photography.

The course helped Jammie to see how his short-term goals could benefit his overall long-term goals by helping him to save money for the equipment he might need.

Jammie was also referred to the Money Minded course to further enhance his financial literacy skills.

“Since joining atWork Australia, Jammie has shown strong dedication to achieving his goals,” said Shameer.

Jammie also earned his RSA and RCG certificates, broadening his job options in hospitality. With support from his Indigenous Connections Coach, Kathleen, and Employer Engagement Consultant, Desiree, he successfully secured employment at a Bakery. atWork Australia supported Jammie to purchase an electric bike so that he could attend his interview and get to and from work.

“This role brings him financial stability and closer to his long-term career aspirations. Jammie’s journey reflects strong personal growth, consistent engagement, and a clear vision for his future,” said Shameer.

“His attitude has shifted from uncertainty to determination, and he now sees a clear and realistic path to financial security and independence.”

Jammie has proven to himself that he is capable of positive change, and his recent success in securing a job at a bakery is a major milestone in his journey.

“Shameer helped me feel comfortable. He inspired confidence in finding work when I thought I had none because of my past choices,” said Jammie.
