At the time of entering the atWork Australia office in Riverwood, NSW, Workforce Australia client, James was confused, un-motivated and uncertain of what jobs he would be best suited for.
After spending over a year applying for jobs himself and not seeing any results, atWork Australia’s support was game changing for him.
“After only being with us for several weeks, we were able to not only get James employment, but boost his confidence too,” said Job Coach, Kaniz.
Results were received so quickly because of the construction of a Job Plan including a resume, explaining his history to employers and building his confidence through local events.
“James had a history of incarceration, which may have been deterring employers when he was applying for positions,” Kaniz adds.
“By getting to know James, I was able to understand that his jail time was related to fines.”
She knew that all was needed to get James into employment was sharing this information with potential employers, and having James’ skills do the rest of the work.
Together Kaniz and James constructed a resume and cover letter tailored to his work experience and skills.
With a local First Steps to Success occurring in the area, Kaniz suggested that James attend. She recognised it would be a great opportunity for James to meet employers, and training providers in more comfortable setting. It would also be a great way to see what employment opportunities he would be interested in.
Whilst at the event, not only did he connect with a range of employers, but he also met with some of the broader atWork Australia team members. This included Employer Engagement Consultant, Isabela.
Isabel supported James to speak with a range of employers, and they were interested in employing James. As a result, an interview was confirmed.

James was successful in securing a Warehouse cleaning position. He is currently working 30 plus hours a week and is enjoying the financial freedom it has provided him.
