When Jackson first came to atWork Australia, he had been having difficulty securing employment on his own. He was regularly receiving feedback that he had been unsuccessful. Although Jackson was starting to feel a little deflated, he was far from defeated. Instead of continuing down the same path that was proving to be quite difficult, Jackson connected with atWork Australia’s Workforce Australia team in Salisbury, South Australia, to get tailored support on his employment journey.
When Jackson first met his Job Coach, Brandon, he shared that he had not worked since 2019; he had been applying for positions and has not been successful. Jackson advised that the constant knock backs were beginning to affect his motivation and confidence in his ability to find employment. Jackson lives with mental health concerns, including anxiety, and this period of unemployment was exacerbating his health condition.
Brandon’s first priority for supporting Jackson was to organise for him to get support with his mental health. Brandon referred Jackson to atWork Australia’s Wellness Services, this would give him an opportunity to connect with a professional Wellness Advisor to get support to manage his health barriers.
Additionally, Brandon supported Jackson to complete his Responsible Servicing of Alcohol (RSA). Once complete, the pair began searching for opportunities within the hospitality industry. Unfortunately, Jackson was not able secure a position with his new RSA licence.
This was only a minor setback, Brandon and Jackson went back to the drawing board and began brainstorming other suitable employment options. Brandon connected Jackson with atWork Australia’s employer engagement team, who could expose him to broader range of employers.
The employer engagement team met with Jackson to learn more about his skills and interests. Soon enough, Jackson was referred to a production role and two days after the interview, he commenced employment.
The continued support from Jackson’s Job Coach and his Wellness Advisor has helped to keep him motivated throughout the employment journey. Jackson’s Job Coach, Brandon, said, “Jackson was on my caseload for a short time before having success with gaining employment. He always demonstrated drive, passion, resilience and determination.”
“The support from atWork Australia has allowed me to get back into the workforce and helped me contribute to society,” said Jackson.
