Workforce Australia client, Maggie*, has maintained stable employment her whole life. She was approaching the age where she could see the finish line, with retirement in her sights.
Suddenly, Maggie found herself in a situation which resulted in her not having a driver’s licence and unemployed.
Knowing that age can often be a significant barrier to employment, Maggie was feeling overwhelmed and concerned about her employment future.

Maggie was open with her Job Coach, sharing that the whole experience of suddenly losing her job has impacted her confidence and mental health. Anika acknowledged the difficulty of what she had experienced and assured Maggie that atWork Australia would support her through this challenging time.
“It was a shock to find myself unemployed so suddenly, and the reassurance from the Clare team really helped to bolster my confidence,” said Maggie.
Maggie come to her first appointment prepared with ideas for her next career. She was aware that employers were looking for people with MYOB and payroll experience. With the support of her Job Coach, Maggie wasted no time in enrolling in a MYOB course.
While Maggie completed her studies, she remained focused on exploring other opportunities to improve her chances to secure employment.
Maggie was connected with atWork Australia’s Wellness Services, to get professional support to help her process some of the unexpected changes in her life.
Additionally, while Maggie was experiencing this gap in employment, she participated in atWork Australia’s MoneyMinded program. Pre-Employment facilitator, Emma, was able to coach Maggie to effectively manage her personal finances during this difficult time.
With the full support of atWork Australia, Maggie is taking positive steps to better herself and improve her chances of returning to work. With her positive mindset we have no doubt it is just a matter of time until she is once again thriving in the workplace.
