When Disability Employment Services client, Kieran first came to atWork Australia, he was very anxious about finding employment.
Being young, and living with depression, his confidence and motivation was lacking as he was used to spending most of his days sleeping and playing video games all night.
Kieran was referred to atWork Australia in Warilla, NSW. In the beginning, he would often sleep through his scheduled appointments and showed no real commitment to take the leap into a working career.
Then he met Destiny, an atWork Australia Job Coach who began working with him. Destiny first worked on engaging Kieran and got him attending every appointment face-to-face, from then she worked on Kieran’s confidence and built up his skills to get him to interview preparation.
She also spoke to him about the type of role he was looking for, which for him was one where he could work from home. Through these practices, Destiny was able to discover what role Kieran would be happy in and maintain.
Destiny and Kieran did all job searching together until the point where he was confident and able to do this himself from home.
Kieran was then eventually successful in gaining a role that enabled him to work from home. Given his barriers, this made Kieran feel very comfortable and confident to be able to commence in his new role.
Working has given Kieran direction and meaning. He has a steady routine along with something to wake up to and work towards each day. Working has also helped improve Kieran’s mental health.
