Workforce Australia client, Nicole, was working minimal hours as a cleaner. She was seeking support to increase her hours, and reached out to atWork Australia in Daveron Park, SA.
When Nicole met Job Coach, Natalie, she shared her job history and work goals. She also shared her barriers which included a history of homelessness, domestic violence, no licence, and a limited work history.
With this information in mind, Natalie constructed a tailored job plan for Nicole that would lead to her goal of more consistent work hours. Nicole was excited.
In the coming months, Natalie and Nicole worked together well. They started achieving goals, with Nicole upskilling in obtaining her First Aid certification, as well as gaining confidence to take the next step.
When attending the office for one of her scheduled appointments, Natalie noticed Nicole wasn’t acting herself and wasn’t engaging as she normally would. After asking if Nicole was okay, she shared that she currently has a lot happening in the background, and as a result had fallen back into old habits.
“After hearing this information, I shared with Nicole a range of local resources and support tools on offer both internal to atWork Australia, and external,” said Natalie.
“I was quite concerned for her, and suggested that she contact the services for tailored, professional assistance. She mentioned that she would use these tools after the appointment.”
About a week later, Natalie received a call from Nicole thanking her for her support. She shared that she had been in contact with the services and admitted herself into a local drug and alcohol rehab program.
“From here, we were in contact every couple of days. Nicole would share a countdown to when she was starting the program. She was so excited to take the next step,” said Natalie.
After the conclusion of the program, Nicole contacted Natalie once again and was delighted to share the good news. The pair have re-commenced their appointments together.
Now, with Nicole’s confidence high, the atWork Australia team are searching for the perfect position for her. Nicole is grateful for the support of Natalie, and the broader atWork Australia team for all they have done for her, so far. She knows this is just the beginning and is looking forward to her future.
“Knowing that Natalie believed in me meant everything. She was always there to support me. Without her, I am not sure where I would be.” – Nicole, atWork Australia client.
