For some clients, financial stress can be one of the biggest barriers to entering the workforce.
atWork Australia’s Workforce Australia client, Jason, found that his financial stress was holding him back from making progress towards his goals.
He started working with Job Coach, Rachael, at the Riverwood, NSW, office where she referred him into a Money Minded program.
The Money Minded program helps clients to make informed decisions and manage money to reduce financial stressors and barriers to employment.
“For some potential clients, the main thing that’s holding them back from chasing after their next career move, or even their dream job, is money,” said Rachael.
“After achieving financial stability, we find that clients will put more efforts into finding employment.”
This is the case for Jason. He advised that after he participated, he became more motivated to participate in other activities to support him to become work ready.
“Jason said the program supported him make informed decisions,” said Rachael.
“These are achieved through attending activities that improve confidence and decision making by engaging in topics including: Understanding financial priorities; Setting SMART financial goals; Creating and managing budgets; developing networks; understanding credit, loans and debt, and accessing financial counselling.”
“In the process of learning, Jason was engaged with a lot of teamwork. His communication skills and interpersonal skills are growing successfully, as well as his self-esteem.”
Jason’s perceptions began to change from a negative pattern of thinking into positive one.
After being unemployed for a number of years, Jason is now working.
“Jason is incredibly driven, authentic and an inspirational person. He is a very good team player,” said his new employer.
