When Hayden first reached out to atWork Australia, Bankstown, he was hesitant to find work and was experiencing a lack of self-confidence as a result of being long-term unemployed. Hayden lives with a medical condition that limits his physical ability to endure long hours of work. He also needed to work on his mental health to help place him in the right frame of mind to secure sustainable employment. Soon after connecting with his Job Coach, Sharron, Hayden began to actively take steps to engage in additional support programs to help him reach his goals.
Hayden had been unemployed for nine years, but he was eager to re-join the workforce and build the future he wanted. He had limited work skills and experience; the type of work he could do was restricted due to his medical condition. Hayden lives with Neurofibromatosis; a condition that causes the growth of tumours, leaving him with endurance limitations.
Sharron worked with Hayden to build his confidence, working together to job-search and practice interview skills. As a result, Hayden found employment as a cleaner with ISS Facility Services.
Hayden said, “the biggest challenge was the financial output required to find work; getting to and from interviews on transport, as well as not knowing if I could afford to have what I needed to start work. But with the help I got along the way from atWork Australia, I felt more confident.”
Once Hayden started work, he was provided with on the job training, along with a helpful team, who have made him feel supported in the workplace. Hayden says he is made to feel confident at work and it’s what he likes most.
Hayden has been supported in the transition into employment with the guidance of his employer, Joan, from ISS Facility Services. Joan is happy to have Hayden as part of the team, she said, “Hayden is a great team member who is always reliable.”
Looking back on his journey so far, Hayden says, “employment has given me financial independence and self-confidence.”
Hayden would also share wisdom from his experience “if you’re finding it difficult to find work, find a supportive provider, such as atWork Australia; work with them and you’ll get a better future.”
Sharron says, “I am proud of Hayden’s achievements and his progress; he was successful securing employment and he continues to work hard to keep his job.”
