Glen has emerged from a run of painful experiences with a satisfying, full-time job and the knowledge that he can now give his young son a brighter, more prosperous future.
The former landscaper, 33, from the remote West Australian town of Coolup, approached atWork Australia’s Pinjarra office after a string of unfortunate incidents led to him being out of work for two years.
atWork Australia Job Coach Justine said when she first met Glen he was living remotely while raising his son alone.
“He was trying to find a role within school hours to be there and support his son, which was a very difficult task,” Justine said.
Glen was signed up to atWork Australia’s Jobs Now program, which helps those with injury or disability find a satisfying job with the right employer.
Justine spent many sessions helping Glen put together professional job application materials, such as an eye-catching resume and cover letters. She also coached him through practice interviews and taught him some useful networking skills as another way to gain employment.
Glen was able to be connected to a network of atWork Australia employers, and it wasn’t long before he was hired as a tradesman by a sizeable WA building company that services the mining industry. He was extraordinarily relieved at the news.
“I’m so grateful that I can now give my boy a better life thanks to getting back into employment,” Glen said.
Justine said he had developed as a person through his work with her and the Jobs Now program.
“Glen has grown from an individual with barriers, to moving forward into sustainable and suitable employment that has given him a new lease on life, and the ability to live a more comfortable life with his son,” she said.
