When Glenn came to atWork Australia in Mount Hawthorn, WA over a year ago, he had low confidence and didn’t believe he could compete with others when looking for work.
Glenn lives with a mental health condition, and he was a full-time father managing housing instability. He hadn’t worked for over ten years.
atWork Australia helped Glenn discover his transferrable skills. He is now celebrating his first anniversary working in the cabinet-making industry.
When Job Coach Lachlan first met Glenn, they talked about his mental health and wellbeing. Lachlan supported Glenn connect with organisations to help with his mental health and housing instability.
They then worked on discovering his transferrable skills and how he could apply those skills in different aspects of work and looked at his past employment history. This helped to build Glenn’s confidence.
They updated his resume to include those transferrable skills, and Lachlan provided fuel vouchers to help Glenn attend interviews. Glenn was open to assistance and eager to get started in work.
“We helped Glenn understand that unemployed doesn’t mean unskilled. Glenn had many different skills and strengths. Once he understood that it helped build his confidence,” said Lachlan.
For the employer IKAL Kitchens, manager Joe was finding it difficult to find someone keen to do the work and had used all the standard job searching platforms.
When Lachlan referred Glenn to IKAL they were excited to find someone who was the right fit.
Joe says, “Glenn is the right man for the job,” while Glenn believes his boss is one of the best “Great job, great boss.”
“Glenn’s Journey has been long. It is pleasing to place someone in the right opportunity for them. Glenn and the team at IKAL are now both thriving,” said Lachlan.
“Congratulations to Glenn on his one-year anniversary.”
