23-year-old Tanica is currently at TAFE, studying to become a hairdresser. She started working with the atWork Australia team in Ravenswood, Tasmania with her short term and long-term employment goals already in mind.
Tanica spoke to her Job Coach, Cynda, about her goal to find part-time employment. To become a hairdresser, you need to have some money behind you to purchase hairbrushes and other equipment to practice your craft.
However, Tanica needed support to find employment that would work around her study commitments so she could still pursue her dream career.
The atWork Australia team worked with her to identify the type of work that would interest Tanica.
Cynda approached her with a role she knew was available, working at a Jewelry retail store which Tanica was excited about.
Cydna was able to negotiate for Tanica to have the time off she needed for her study.
The Workforce Australia, atWork Australia team then supported her to purchase work related clothing, and a police clearance check that she needed to start the role.
“Tanica has always had an eager and positive attitude towards work,” said Cynda.
“She is loving her new role and appreciates the opportunity to gain experience speaking with customers, something she will need in her future as a hairdresser.”
atWork Australia continues to support Tanica through In-Work Support and with her long-term employment goal by financially assisting with her course costs.
