Workforce Australia client, Simon commenced with atWork Australia in Wanneroo, Western Australia, in January 2024.
He shared with his Job Coach, Shelby, that he had limited work experience, but had completed a Certificate II in Construction Pathways and was keen to use his new skills in employment.
“Simon showed pride in his brickwork and was adamant on finding a role where he could use his skills,” said Shelby.
atWork Australia financially supported Simon to purchase a phone to help him with his job searching.
However, Shelby found at times Simon wasn’t meeting his job searching commitments. Shelby referred Simon into atWork Australia’s internal program, Jobs for the Mob, which looks at goal setting in life, study, and employment.
“After Simon participated in the Jobs for the Mob program, I noticed a change in him. He was more determined to find employment,” said Shelby.
With limited employment opportunities in brick paving, Simon also obtained his Traffic Control ticket with the support of atWork Australia.
atWork Australia’s Employer Engagement Consultant, Ant, was able to find Simon a casual role as a traffic controller. This role then led to a second role in the same week, in Simon’s goal career of brick paving.
atWork Australia organised personal protective equipment for both of Simon’s new jobs and provided fuel assistance for him to get to work for the first few weeks.
“Simon’s attitude has been so positive, and he radiates good energy. I am so proud of Simon and his efforts,” said Shelby.
“Thank you so much. And yes, I love my job,” said Simon, Workforce Australia Client.
