Disability Employment Services client, Kale*, was referred to atWork Australia’s Ryde, NSW, office for employment assistance.
At 59, Kale had limited work goals. He wasn’t really interested in returning to work for a large organisation or a workplace that might not be supportive of his needs.
Kale lives with chronic pain and a mood disorder. When he started working with his Job Coach, Joe, they started by discussing his goals and getting to know each other.
Once Joe learnt of Kale’s skills and interest in tattooing, he encouraged, and introduced him to resources he might need to open his own business.
When Kale was ready to open his own shop, atWork Australia supported him financially to purchase a tattoo bed.
As Kale started to build his client base, atWork Australia continued to support him. Even visiting Kale at his new shop.
“Our team conducted visits to the shop and observed that Kale has been increasingly confident, and actively dedicated to his work,” said Job Coach, Joe.
As Kale’s confidence increased, he gained more clients and increased his working hours. He has now been self-employed for more than 26 weeks.
“Our team is delighted to have played a part in helping Kale to realise his dream of opening his own tattoo shop. We are pleased to see him successful and achieving his goals,” said Joe.
“He always welcomes us with a smile. He has kept his shop looking meticulous, reflecting his enhanced confidence in himself.”
“Great service and support from the atWork Australia team. They helped me so much with my business and I have continued to receive support,” said Kale.
