Disability Employment Services client, Samantha, celebrates a new milestone – a sustainable role.
Samantha lives with mental health conditions, including anxiety. In the past, this has seen her leaving her employment before three months has passed.
She started working with Job Coach, Abigail, at the Penrith office having been unemployed for two years.
Abigail and Samantha worked together to identify suitable roles, look for part-time work and really looked at job matching a role to her skills.
For clients who live with mental health conditions, and especially anxiety in a social setting, trolley collecting can be a great role to start with as it has limited interaction with other people yet provides the feeling of achievement when the job is done.
Abigail discussed this role with Samantha and called employers on her behalf to advocate for her. Soon Samantha landed a role as a Trolley Collector.
“This role so far, is the longest job Samantha has held, she just needed a little support and to be connected to the right job and right employer,” said Abigail.
“This role has also helped Samantha build routine, which has helped her mental health and overall mindset.”
Samantha was very timid and lacked confidence when she began but over time, she is becoming more confident and confident; she is now thriving.
“This role has been a great steppingstone and I am excited to see where I will be in the future and what else I can achieve,” said Samantha.
