Jenny is excited for a new beginning having lived with social anxiety for a long time which had kept her from working.
It can be difficult to find work when you have been unemployed for over 10 years, and this was the position Jenny from Clyde North in Victoria found herself.
Living with several medical barriers and lacking in skills and qualifications, Jenny thought she was unemployable.
Jenny decided to contact atWork Australia’s Cranbourne office where she met Shukriya, her new Job Coach.
Shukriya began with helping Jenny with her self-confidence, encouraging her to be happy and comfortable with who she is, and to not let her barriers hold her back from finding good work.
“I assisted Jenny with mock interviews, created her resume, arranged clothing for the role, and generally kept motivating her to face her social fears and put herself out there to prospective employers,” Shukriya says.
Shukriya sought the assistance of Employer Engagement Consultant, Martina, who she knew would have contacts that would be willing to give Jenny a go.
Martina knew of a local aged care service who was looking for a reliable person to work as a Domestic Assistant, and an interview was arranged for Jenny.
She was very nervous for the interview, having been unemployed for so long, however the aged care facility thought Jenny would be a great fit for their team, and after 10 years, she now had part-time work.
Shukriya says that Jenny was ecstatic and could not believe it, and she celebrated her new achievement with a cup of tea.
Jenny is so grateful to have been connected with Job Coach, Shukriya and still can hardly believe she has been so lucky.
“After every storm, the sun come out and shines down on you,” she says.
