When Lisa approached atWork Australia, she was already employed and working as a Disability Support Worker, however, she required stable and sustainable employment and as much as she enjoyed her work, she needed support to ask for more hours.
Due to the lack of hours, Lisa was beginning to feel anxious about being able to provide for herself and her daughter. Lisa approached other businesses looking for work but was not successful.
With atWork Australia on her side, Lisa was placed with Job Coach Ebony. Ebony saw Lisa’s passion for her work in support and care, so she set about working on increasing Lisa’s hours and advocating for Lisa with her employer.
As Lisa did not have a licence, Ebony supported Lisa with getting to and from work.
Lisa’s confidence improved with Ebony, and Ebony helped support Lisa by encouraging her to take any extra hours.
Ebony was able to discuss extra work for Lisa with her employer and involve Lisa in the process to grow her confidence too. Ebony was able to also provide more work-appropriate clothing
Lisa’s employer was happy to offer more work, and signed Lisa up to permanent work, so she no longer has to worry about finances.
Lisa was overjoyed to get permanent work, saying, “I feel like I have achieved my goal”.
With Lisa’s need for more hours at work happening amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Ebony was able to provide taxis for Lisa, so her health was not at risk and she didn’t miss work. Ebony also appreciated the face-to-face and phone appointments that atWork Australia offer.
Lisa said, “Ebony worked with me not against me” and stated she found working with atWork Australia easy, “nothing was ever too hard for the staff at atWork Australia, I was able to approach them with anything”
Ebony stated that “Lisa was an outstanding client to work with and always came into her appointment with a smile on her face” She commends Lisa for doing a great job, getting her to where she is today.
Lisa is currently moving towards getting her licence and is still happy at work, helping her clients with disability and putting their needs at the heart of everything she does
