Tristan sought the assistance of atWork Australia in Mooroopna to find work as a labourer with an employer who would understand his needs.
Tristan, who has epilepsy, felt his medical condition, was getting in the way of him finding ongoing employment.
He was trialling various medications to help manage his symptoms – some of which were more successful than others. He also needed to rely on others for transport, as his condition does not allow him to have a driver’s licence. While Tristan’s parents and grandparents are supportive, helping him get to job interviews and worksites, this effort did not lead to sustainable employment.
Tristan finally approached atWork Australia and met his DES Job Coach, Belinda who was strategic from the get-go, working with Tristan to update and redesign his résumé.
From there, Belinda and Tristan worked together contacting local employers and explaining Tristan’s condition. It was important to advocate that epilepsy was not a barrier for the type of work that Tristan wanted and was well suited to do.
The reverse marketing and employer education plan worked perfectly. Belinda and Tristan found an ongoing role, which was close to home, making the driving easier for his family.
Tristan is over the moon to have finally found meaningful work.
“I am very happy that I have found ongoing employment. Having work has improved my life and it has lifted my confidence,” he says.
Although the journey with atWork Australia was a short one for Tristan, it was extremely fulfilling and a great success.
Belinda continues to support Tristan with post placement follow up and by all reports; Tristan is doing very well settling into his role.
