When Ashton walked into atWork Australia’s Workforce Australia office in Katanning, WA, he had limited education, skills and qualifications. However, he did bring an incredible work ethic and a willingness to engage and participate.
Ashton is a young man who left high school a few years ago after completing year 10. He has spent the last three years trying to obtain his driver’s licence and trying to find suitable employment. Unfortunately, he was not able to achieve either of his goals. Ashton decided it was time to reach out for support and that’s when he came to atWork Australia to get support to find employment.
Ashton was introduced to his Employer Engagement Consultant, Brendan, who could see that Ashton had a strong work ethic, but just needed the right support to help get him started. Brendan referred Ashton to the Wanderer Program. The Wanderer Program supports Indigenous Australians with the training and resources to secure their driver’s licence. After just two months of driving lessons, Ashton was able to achieve his goal of obtaining his driver’s licence. To further increase Ashtons chances of finding employment, atWork Australia were able to provide support and funding to complete his White Card.
Now Ashton is equipped with his driver’s licence and a White Card; his Employer Engagement Consultant, Brendan, connected him with Badgebup Aboriginal Corporation , where Ashton was successful in securing employment placement. Ashtons Employer Engagement Consultant, Brendan, said, “Ashton has come on leaps and bounds since working with the staff at atWork Australia in Katanning. He has diligently applied himself to whatever we have referred him to, and this has ultimately led to a young man with no transport, skills or work history, to transform himself into a great job-ready candidate.”
Ashton was very appreciative of the support from atWork Australia and is very excited about his new opportunity. Ashton said, “atWork Australia has supported me so much, I wouldn’t have been able to get my licence so quickly without the help from atWork Australia.”
Ashton has worked extremely well towards his goal of being self-sufficient. He now has his licence, a formal qualification, and his foot in the door with Badgerbup Aboriginal Corporation , engaging in meaningful work.
“I am now more confident in myself and believe I can achieve my goals,” said Ashton, atWork Australia Client
